We need to change the country's name from the United States to Oligarchia America
Sometimes an event happens that is a "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain" moment and to deny it is to deny reality.
It is not that there are no hints as to the way things actually are, but the reality smack is sometimes so immediate and forceful, that it cannot be denied by anyone other than a fanatic system sycophant.
Not that there are not a lot of those.
Thirty members of a group that would certainly consider themselves progressive emitted a missive to the world blandly calling for negotiations to end the proxy war the United States and its European vassals are pushing in Europe.
It was a nice letter and made nice Uke good, Russia bad noises so who could object?
The thought that not chancing a nuclear war is going too far out on a limb seems reasonable to the reasonable.
So who is unreasonable?
According to Walt Zlotow at Antiwar.com, the progressives caved,
"They wilted amid a firestorm of criticism from pro war hardliners in government and the pundit class they were abandoning Ukraine by even considering negotiations without Ukraine’s lead, input and involvement. But this maligns the carefully worded letter which promoted negotiations to achieve “a free and independent Ukraine” but that “it is America’s responsibility to pursue every diplomatic avenue to support such a solution that is acceptable to the people of Ukraine.”
What spooked them, and at the speed of light almost, Mr. Zlotow sees this,
"Former Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-chair Mark Pocan explicitly admitted the letter appeared to have aligned the Democratic Party with the presumed Republican promise to abandon Ukraine. In a preposterous non-sequitur, Pocan argued “Every war ends with diplomacy, and this one will too after Ukrainian victory.” It’s sorta like “We’ll negotiate peace…after we kill you.”"
Below is the caucus statement:
Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Statement on Ukraine Letter
October 25, 2022
WASHINGTON — Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, issued the following statement on a letter sent regarding Ukraine:
“The Congressional Progressive Caucus hereby withdraws its recent letter to the White House regarding Ukraine.
“The letter was drafted several months ago, but unfortunately was released by staff without vetting. As Chair of the Caucus, I accept responsibility for this. Because of the timing, our message is being conflated by some as being equivalent to the recent statement by Republican Leader McCarthy threatening an end to aid to Ukraine if Republicans take over. The proximity of these statements created the unfortunate appearance that Democrats, who have strongly and unanimously supported and voted for every package of military, strategic, and economic assistance to the Ukrainian people, are somehow aligned with Republicans who seek to pull the plug on American support for President Zelensky and the Ukrainian forces.
“Nothing could be further from the truth. Every war ends with diplomacy, and this one will too after Ukrainian victory. The letter sent yesterday, although restating that basic principle, has been conflated with GOP opposition to support for the Ukrainians’ just defense of their national sovereignty. As such, it is a distraction at this time and we withdraw the letter.”
Politics surrounds everything in D.C., but there is more to this than the vetting problem.
It is low to throw your staff under the bus in this manner.
There was pushback, but no immense firestorm and to be worried that you might be considered a peacenik on the level of McCarthy is suspect.
As to who gave marching orders and how, is something for others to investigate, but here on Long Hill, we know our duty.
Long Live the United Oligarchic States of America and their vanguard, The Progressive War Democrats!
